SÃO PAULO — October 6, 2022 — Scala Data Centers , the first Latin American platform for sustainable data centers in the Hyperscale market, announces the construction of its first site in the south of Brazil, in Porto Alegre. Part of the HyperEdge family designed by Scala, this site has a configuration designed to meet the connection and distributed computing (edge) demand of large content and cloud service providers. With 7.2MW of capacity customized and dedicated to Hyperscale customers, it is the only data center of its kind in the region, scheduled to go live in the second quarter of next year and with two main suppliers. of cloud and content as customers.

Strategically positioned in a region with high population density and relevant economic activity, the data center will be very close to the data capture points, allowing the computational processing of various services and applications requiring low latency, such as the metaverse, the Internet of Things (IoT), telemedicine, self-driving cars, among others, whose implementation will be accelerated by 5G.

With an estimated investment of R$250 million, the construction of the new development uses the FastDeploy approach, Scala’s proprietary design and build methodology that enables the implementation of data centers in up to 50% less time. compared to the traditional model. This solution is based on prefabricated and transportable modular components that are integrated into the buildings where the data center is located, with an optimized experience for Hyperscale customers. A high-speed, low-latency connection is also planned for a future campus, which the company plans to install in Greater Porto Alegre, to support the growth in demand reported by its customers in the coming years. The estimate is to generate more than 200 direct and indirect jobs between the construction and operation of this data center.

Following the standard established by the company, a pioneer in the adoption of sustainable practices in the construction and operation of its data centers, the HyperEdge site, in Porto Alegre, will have 100% renewable energy consumption and an index high energy efficiency, as well as the reduction of water consumption.

“We are creating the necessary infrastructure for the application ecosystem to exploit the potential of 5G. We continue to build the large campuses that house the heart of transactions for our customers and now, as application maturity progresses towards processing data close to users, we are also building HyperEdge data centers, connecting new data centers regional data,” says Marcos Peigo, CEO of Scala Data Centers.

“Porto Alegre is a welcoming city for entrepreneurs, which now welcomes the operation of Scala data centers with open arms. An investment that corroborates the vocation for innovation and the transformation strategy of the Fourth District that the management is take off with the master plan for the region,” says Mayor Sebastião Melo.
